I got this sweet card from my BFF today:

Our newest relative is doing great. We see signs everyday that his separation anxiety is improving. We think (hope?) he's starting to get it that he's stuck with us.

I'm so happy for the Story clan to have this new family member. Having a dog is definitely sometimes difficult, but such a rewarding experience. Sophie had separation anxiety too. She actually went on doggie prozac for a while (yes, I just admitted that publicly).

Dare I tell you what helped her get over it the most, besides time and age? We discovered that making sure she wasn't somehow closed off from our other dog, Emma (RIP), and ensuring her bowl was full of food did the trick. The times she destroyed the couch pillows seemed were because somehow either her or Emma had been closed off in one part of the house from other (there was a door to the basement/family room that liked to close) or her food bowl was empty.

Now, I'm not saying to get a second dog. We have only one dog now and life is so much easier with just one and we are keeping it that way. But, admittedly it did help.
