9-1-14

Hope you enjoyed your Labor Day, free from labor and full of end-of-the-summer fun!

Our dear friends, the Maynards, moved today to an apartment a few blocks away from our building. They'll be here for the next 9 months or so for language training. We are soooo excited they're so close.  We celebrated with a BBQ on our rooftop and look forward to many more.

We are slightly addicted to "homemade" ice cream sandwiches at our house right now. I saw the idea on the Barefoot Contessa's blog, made them and now we.cannot.stop.eating.them.

They're homemade only in that you assemble them at home, but unless you go nuts and home bake the cookies and churn the ice cream, it's super simple and fast to make them with small chocolate chip cookies from your grocery store bakery and good-quality ice cream.

We made two kinds: chocolate chip cookies filled with chocolate ice cream and rolled in mini chocolate chips (for Mac but he prefers no mini choc chips so his are even faster to make!) and chocolate chips filled with coffee ice cream rolled in Heath bar chips.

Oh my goodness. Because I used smallish chocolate chip cookies, they don't seem very high-calorie and therefore we eat lots of them.

Thanks Barefoot Contessa for a great idea!

I got this sweet card from my BFF today:

Our newest relative is doing great. We see signs everyday that his separation anxiety is improving. We think (hope?) he's starting to get it that he's stuck with us.

We went to sixth grade orientation.

How did we get to middle school?

Mac seemed confident and was happy to see some of his friends from 5th grade. We met his home room teacher who is back in the classroom after a 5-year break to stay home with her baby. I like that. And we found out that her husband is from Bogota, so we were able to bond with her over that connection.

I'm sure it's going to be a great year.

My laptop got majorly hacked today.

Worse than that, I may have been scammed by the hackers in my quest to fix the problem. That's still unclear but I spent hours working on this problem and have zero confidence that I've done everything I need to do to protect myself. I'm kind of freaked out here.

As a matter if principle, I hate thieves.

I hate pickpockets.

I hate purse snatchers.

I hate robbers.

I hate car thieves.

I hate hackers who, even if they just create a nuisance, steal a sense of security.

I hope there's a special punishment for them all on Judgment Day.
